Just dropping in...
Hello hello, I'm still alive. I have been really busy with my studies and had to go on an involuntary blogging break. I am hopng to have more time for my blog after summer, but we will see. However, I have not stopped creating, that would be too much! These sleeping bambies were sewn as Christmas or baby gifts some six months ago...

An old project
Siivosin vanhaa tietokonetta tyhjäksi kaikista kuvista, jospa ne vihdoin saisi arkistoitua johonkin muualle, koneesta kun on näyttö pimeänä. Löysin sieltä kuvia ajalta ennen blogia, kun tein Emma-vauvalle pinnasänkyyn katoksen. Pohjana on Ikean perusverhokatos ja päälle tein hupun vanhoista käytetyistä vauvaharsoista. Lisäksi reunaa kiertää silkkinauha johon kiinnitin topattuja harsosydämiä ja katoksen reunat on myös kantattu silkkinauhalla. Niin hempeää...
.....
I was emptying my old laptop and found these old pictures. I made this canopy for Emma's crib when she was just a baby. I used Ikea's basic canopy and made a hood over it from old baby cotton reusable diapers. Sounds terrible but they were clean, I didn't use them as diapers, only as baby wipes! The rim is decorated with a silk ribbon and I added padded hearts to it as well. I lined the edges of the canopy with the same silk ribbon. Wasn't it so sweet?

I made the same set once before. I like them a lot! Instructions from Garnstudio.

Baby bonnet
A simple baby bonnet for a toddler. A bit too simple, missing ruffles, lace or something! Simple to make, pattern my own (read: copied and combined from a few shop bought bonnets).
Did I stress the word "simple" enough?

Baby toys
I like crocheted toys, they are so soft and nice. I just had to make some after I found good instructions from Garnstudio. They have cute designs and I now have this urge to try knitting as well.. I just need to buy some knitting needles!
I found the instructions for the rattle from Garnstudio's website. The rattles are filled with wadding and since I wanted them to sound like maracas, I added a small plastic container inside and filled that with red lentils. The plastic container is from Kinder Surprise milk chocolate egg, those are very well made and do not break open easily. The rattles are not the same size, since I forgot to follow the instructions...
Everyone repeat after me: That ball is round, that ball is round, that ball is round... Anyway, it WAS round but then my daughter started throwing it around and it was ruined. Next time I'll add more wadding inside, perhaps that helps. Oh, and I will also follow directions and do not just improvise. So the ball is my own design, although I did check Martha Stewart's and Garnstudio's instructions. I just didn't have the patience to follow them!

Dresses for sisters
I made this set for Emma's cousins. The older girl is three years old and the younger one is a newborn. The baby outfit was a gift for the baby's Christening party and I wanted to make the big sister her own dress as well. I used patterns from Ottobre design magazine (summer 3/2010) for the baby outfit and a pattern from the Japanese book Happy Homemade Wardrobe, vol. 2 for the toddler dress. I have made a nightgown for Emma from the same book earlier and I really recommend it. Lots of great, simple patterns. I wanted the dresses to match, so even though I used different patterns, I chose the same fabrics and also add a little butterfly applique to both dresses.
Sorry for the crappy images, we were almost late for the christening party and I still had to gift wrap the dresses. I am never on time...
The baby outfit has pants and a tunic. I modified the pattern a bit, since it would have required a zipper which I did not have. I left the back completely open and used snaps for closure, it is easier to put on that way. The butterfly is smaller in the baby tunic than in the toddler dress even though it does not show well in the pictures.

Every baby needs a tutu...
I made these baby clothes in January already but had forgotten them completely. Pictures are not the best, since I did not take them for my blog and now the baby has grown too big for these clothes (and is too far away anyway, boohoo...) that I cannot take better ones. This was a baby gift to my dear friend.
I think that every newborn baby girl needs her own tutu and that is what I made for baby Vivian as well. I bought two bodies from H&M and decorated those to be worn with the tutu. I kind of thought that something was missing still and found this old piece of good quality velour from my fabric stash and decided to make a romper. The fabric is from the eighties and I remember that my mother made me, my bother and herself pants using this fabric. The colour is weird, but works really well with soft pink and white. I hope you can get your eyes off the baby and look at the romper, I almost couldn't! Just look at the cheeks... Oh, and she is asleep, only time I could take focused pictures :)
The pattern is from an old Suuri Käsityökerho magazine (1/2008) and it has been designed by Tiia Vanhatapio, who has her own collection of couture baby clothes, Vanhatapio Bebes.
